When the world gathered for the FIFA World Cup 2026, another story was unfolding quietly behind closed doors.

For decades, research has shown that major sporting events can coincide with increased intimate partner violence. The evidence existed long before the first match was played.

When that evidence identified a foreseeable increase in risk, you and our community chose not to wait.

Together, you helped build specialized intimate partner violence capability so women experiencing escalating violence could reach practitioners with the expertise to recognize coercive control, assess risk, develop individualized safety plans and help them move toward safety.

Because of you, women were not left to face that risk alone.

What You Made Possible

Over a remarkable period, our community invested $203,851 to strengthen specialized intimate partner violence response. Thank you… so very much.

That investment became far more than financial support.

Together, we provided specialized intimate partner violence response through:

  • Expertise in coercive control, entrapment and patterned abuse

  • Dynamic assessment of escalating risk and femicide-related lethality

  • Individualized safety planning grounded in women’s lived realities

  • Specialized intervention across legal, housing, child protection and health systems

  • Extended crisis line to 24/7 during FIFA

  • Practice-based evidence informing future public safety planning

This is what specialized intimate partner violence response looks like. This is what you helped build.

What Women Revealed

During FIFA World Cup 2026:

  • 734 women sought specialized intimate partner violence support.

  • Nearly 500 women disclosed recognized predictors of escalating lethality.

  • 94 women disclosed strangulation.

  • 84 women disclosed death threats.

  • 214 children were living with or exposed to violence against their mother by a father or father figure.

These statistics represent women who reached out to specialized practitioners during some of the most dangerous moments of their lives.

This confirmed something profoundly important: that women experiencing coercive control, strangulation, escalating violence and death threats require specialized expertise.

FIFA revealed what is possible when a community acts on evidence before predictable risk becomes crisis.
